WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team went 3-0 in pool action to win its group and advance to the semifinals of the Budd Whitehill National Duals on Friday at Lycoming College. The fifth-ranked Blugolds, who have won the tournament two years running, won all three duals in dominant fashion to return to the semifinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire defeated Oswego State 47-7, Williams 39-3, and Washington and Lee 40-9.
- Several wrestlers went unbeaten across the three duals. Sixth-ranked Izzy Balsiger (Jr. - Chippewa Falls, Wis.) won all three of his matches at 125 pounds, with one pin and two technical falls.
- Preston Carlisle (Jr. - Red Wing, Minn./Cannon Falls) went 3-0 at 165 pounds, winning twice by fall and once by major decision.
- Top-ranked Jared Stricker (Sr. - High Bridge, Wis./Ashland) won twice by fall and once by disqualification at 174 pounds. Stricker is now two pins away from setting a new UW-Eau Claire career record.
- In all, the Blugolds tallied 12 pins and five technical falls on the day.

The Blugolds (9-1) will take on No. 19 Ithaca College in the semifinal round on Saturday, January 11. Wrestling begins at 10:30 a.m. Eastern at Lycoming College.
