Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer erupts in first half to defend home turf

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team was back at home on Monday night as the Blugolds celebrated Youth Night with Bethel University in town. UW-Eau Claire controlled the pace of play from the opening whistle with four goals in the first half to earn the 5-1 victory at home over the Royals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elise Pinewski (Sr. – Anoka, Minn.) found the games first tally at the four-minute mark with her third goal of the season. Pinewski completed her second career brace in the 19th minute of the contest as the Blugolds' pressure was too much to handle for the Royals. Sophie Hubbard (Sr. – De Pere, Wis.) earned assists on both of Pinewski's goals for her first multi-assist game of her career.
  • In between Pinewski's goals, Johanna Thompson (Fr. – Green Bay, Wis.) found her third goal of the season off a bouncing ball and a half volley into the top corner at the 8:24 mark.
  • Right before the end of the first half, Anna Lorenzana (So. - Farmington, Minn.) jumped in on the goal frenzy after receiving a 35-yard through ball from Jayda Swopes (So. – Janesville, Wis.) to extend the Eau Claire lead to 4-0 in the 40th minute.
  • The second half held much calmer waters for the visitors as UWEC added just one goal in the 47th minute as Molly Henderson (Sr. – Duluth, Minn.) received a back heel pass from Ava Johnson (Jr. – Elk River, Minn.) and Henderson buried her second goal of the season to extend the lead to 5-0.
  • The Blugold goalkeepers recorded minutes on the brisk Monday night as Kennedy Boll (Sr. – Franklin, Wis.) picked up the win with her one save in the first half. Bella Jones (So. – Neenah, Wis.) made one save in her 26 minutes of play and Ella Swanson (So. – Lakeville, Minn.) capped the night off with 18 minutes and two saves.
