NORMAL, Ill. (
www.blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team wrapped up the IWU Invitational on Saturday with round 2 being played at the Ironwood Golf Course. UW-Eau Clare kept their pace from round 1 and finished the weekend tying for third place as
Nick Amtmann (Jr. – Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) led the way shooting two under par and finishing tied for 2
nd amongst the 214-competitor field.
Amtmann came out firing in round 2 with three birdies on the front nine and two on the back nine. Amtmann finished the day with the second lowest score in the field at 69 strokes for a two-round total of 141.
Ben Pausha (So. – Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) recorded his second round of 76 on the weekend to tie for 44
th overall and keep UWEC within the top-3 varsity teams.
Corey Boerner (Sr. – Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy) and
Nick Mueller (Fr. – Baldwin, Wis./St. Croix Central) both tallied 78's to bring the Blugolds to 598 strokes and a third-place finish in Illinois. The host team, Illinois Wesleyan, was the top team of the weekend with 568 strokes.
Eau Claire's second team kept their consistency from day one as
Spencer Lynch (Fr. – Neenah, Wis./St. Mary Catholic) shot the second lowest UWEC score of the day with a 74.
Owen Covey (Jr. – New Richmond, Wis.),
Fred Moede (Jr. – Savage, Minn./Prior Lake), and
Lucas Ladd (Fr. – Mequon, Wis./ Homestead) shot 77, 78, and 79 respectively to place the Blugolds' second team at 614 stokes for the weekend and a tie for 20
th out of the 37-team field.
The Blugolds will head South next weekend to Florence, Ala. for the Visit Florence Spring Invitational, hosted by Emory College. The three-day event is scheduled to begin on Sunday, April 14 and will go on until Tuesday, April 16. Tee times at the Fighting Joe Golf Course are to be determined.
