LE SUEUR, Minn. (
www.blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team was back in the Midwest this weekend as they looked to climb the ranks of the Division III golf before the NCAA Championships in May. The Blugolds competed in the Bobby Krig Invitational in Southwestern Minnesota and hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. After a third-place finish during day one, UW-Eau Claire jumped one spot on day two and placed second overall out of 14 teams. UWEC's second team placed sixth overall as four Blugolds finished in the top-10 overall.
The opening round on Saturday was held at the New Prague Golf Course and saw
Spencer Lynch (Fr. – Neenah, Wis./St. Mary Catholic) lead the way for the Blugolds with an even par 71. Not too far behind Lynch was
Owen Covey (Jr. – New Richmond, Wis.) and
Carson Brock (Sr. – Onalaska, Wis./Holmen) who respectively shot 73 and 74 to help keep the Blugolds in top contention. Rounding out day one was
Nick Amtmann (Jr. – Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) would enter the clubhouse with a score of 80 to put UWEC in third place with a 298. Eau Claire's second team tied for seventh with a total of 310 strokes as
Ben Pausha (So. – Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine),
Ryan Jamieson (Fr. – St. Paul, Minn./White Bear Lake),
Corey Boerner (Sr. – Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy), and
Alec Sosnowski (So. – Verona, Wis./Middleton) all shot under 80.
Day two saw
Carson Brock lead the way for the Blugolds with a one over par 71 and earn a tie for third place overall.
Owen Covey continued his consistency on the weekend with another round of 73, and
Spencer Lynch and
Nick Amtmann recorded a pair of 76's to move UWEC up one spot in the team rankings to second place.
The second team also jumped in the team scores with a sixth-place overall finish as Pausha, Jamieson, Boerner, and
Lucas Ladd (Fr. – Mequon, Wis./Homestead) combined for another round of 301 strokes.
The Blugolds will be back on the links on April 29-30 for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships held at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course. First tee time on Monday are set for 10:30 a.m.
