MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (
www.blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team wrapped up their trip down South on Tuesday afternoon as they completed round three of The Visit Florence Intercollegiate in dominating fashion to climb the leaderboard and tied for 4
th out of 12 teams. Of the dozen teams competing, four teams were featured in the top-15 of the latest National College Golf Rankings.
With three rounds at hand at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals, UW-Eau Claire found themselves on the lower half of the leaderboard after the first 18-holes of play.
Nick Amtmann (Jr. – Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) continued his stellar spring with a team low 74 in the opening round as he sat tied for 11
th.
Spencer Lynch (Fr. – Neenah, Wis./St. Mary Catholic) and
Nick Mueller (Fr. – Baldwin, Wis./St. Croix Central) were close behind Amtmann as Lynch walked into the clubhouse with a 77 and Miller posted a 79.
Ben Pausha (So. – Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine rounded out the top 4 for Eau Claire on day one with a round of 83 to put UWEC in 7
th with 313 strokes.
Moves were made on day two of the Visit Florence Intercollegiate as every Blugold shot under 80 strokes to move UWEC into a tie for 6
th place.
Nick Amtmann continued to lead with another round of 74.
Spencer Lynch and
Nick Mueller cut strokes off their initial round as Lynch moved into a tie for 21
st with his second round 75 and Mueller jumped into a tied for 33
rd with a 77.
Ben Pausha and
Corey Boerner (Sr. – Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy) finished their second rounds with a pair of 79's as Eau Claire posted a team score of 305 on day two for a 36-hole total of 614 strokes.
The third and final day of the Visit Florence Intercollegiate is where the Blugolds made their jump into the top 5. Nick Amtamnn,
Spencer Lynch, and
Nick Mueller all shot one over par for a trio of 73's to earn Amtmann a 14
th overall finish, Lynch a tie for 17
th, and Mueller a tie at 26
th place.
Ben Pausha rounded out the Blugold scores with his low round of the weekend at 80 to push Eau Claire to 299 strokes on the day and land them in a tie for 4
th place overall with 917 strokes over 54 holes of golf.
The Blugolds will be back on the course on Saturday, April 20 when they travel to New Prague, Minnesota for the Bobby Krig Invitational hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College. Round one is set to begin at the New Prague Golf Course at 1 p.m. with round two to follow on Sunday, April 21 at the Le Sueur Golf Course at 10 a.m.
