OSHKOSH, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to No. 23 UW-Oshkosh 67-45 on Saturday at Kolf Sports Center. A big second quarter helped the Titans pull away, and the Blugolds weren't able to rally in the second half of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) battle.
The Blugolds got out to a solid start against the nationally ranked Titans, scoring 10 of the first 14 points of the game across the opening three-plus minutes. However, UW-Oshkosh went on a 7-1 run to tie the game, and used a 10-2 run later in the period to take the lead for good. The Blugolds trailed 21-15 entering the second period.
UW-Oshkosh started to pull away in the second, where they outscored the Blugolds 22-9. A layup by
Anna Koth (Jr. – Maple Grove, Minn./Wayzata) at the 8:25 mark cut the deficit to four at 25-21, but the Titans used a 9-0 run from there to establish a double-digit advantage. The Blugolds pushed for a rally but the Titans held them scoreless across the final three minutes of the half. UW-Oshkosh entered the second half ahead 43-24.
UW-Eau Claire pulled within 15 of the lead late in the third quarter, but never got any closer. The Titans put the contest out of reach in the fourth period.
Kylie Strop (Jr. – River Falls, Wis.) and
Kyla Overskei (So. – Maple Grove, Minn.) led the Blugolds with 10 points each.
Kylie Mogen (Sr. – Menomonie, Wis.) had nine points and 11 rebounds.
Lucia Hauge (Jr. – Hugo, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran Academy) scored seven points.
UW-Eau Claire shot 36% from the field. The Titans held a slight edge in rebounding at 35-30.
The Blugolds return to action on Wednesday, February 7, with a road WIAC game at UW-River Falls. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. at Don Page Arena.
