STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) -- The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams continued their strong start to the season with a sweep of UW-Stevens Point on Friday night. The Blugold men prevailed 201.5-92.5, while the women won 207-92 to remain unbeaten in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kiara Bissen (Sr. - Madison, Wis./Memorial) helped set the tone for the Blugold women, capturing three individual victories and one relay win. She placed first in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke, along with the 400-yard medley relay.
- Ella Josephs (So. - Plymouth, Wis.), Sydney McGuine (Sr. - Huntley, Ill.) and Elaine Proefrock (Sr. - Grafton, Wis.) all won two individual events for the Blugolds. Josephs swept the one- and three-meter diving competitions. McGuine placed first in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle, and also was part of the victorious 400-yard medley relay. McGuine won the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle.
- Amber Winter (So. - Merrill, Wis.) won the 400-yard medley relay and the 100-yard breaststroke.
- In all, the Blugold women produced eight different individual event winners.
- Ben Keller (Sr. - Cedarburg, Wis.) helped pave the way for the Blugold men, winning three events individually while also placing first in a relay. He won the 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley and the 400-yard medley relay.
- Zhander Rowley (So. - Janesville, Wis./Parker) and Kadin Denner (Sr. - Aurora, Colo./Cherokee Trail) were also part of the victorious 400 medley relay team, and both won three events overall. Rowley also placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breastroke, while Denner won the 100-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle.
- Blake Wallen (So. - Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) will contend for a spot at the NCAA Championships later this season after posting an NCAA Zones qualifying score on the one-meter diving board, tallying a 279.15. He placed second in the event.
- In all, the Blugold men had seven different individual event winners.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds, the defending WIAC champions on both the men's and women's sides, will have their home opener on Saturday, November 2. The teams host UW-La Crosse at the McPhee Pool, with diving beginning at 9 a.m. and swimming starting at 1 p.m.
