MONTGOMERY, Ala. (blugolds.com) —
Jared Stricker (Jr. – Ashland, Wis.) earned the 100
th victory of his Blugold career as the eighth-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team went 4-0 at the Hawk Duals hosted by Huntingdon College on Saturday. Stricker became the ninth wrestler in program history to join the 100-win club, achieving the feat on a day where the Blugolds dominated from start to finish.
Stricker reached 100 wins in two and a half years, making him the fastest wrestler in Blugold history to hit the century mark. He added three more wins afterward, moving him up to eighth on UW-Eau Claire's all-time victories leaderboard.
The Blugolds won all four duals in blowout fashion, taking down Allen University, St. Andrews University, Huntingdon and Reinhardt University. They won all four duals by more than 20 points.
The Blugolds began the day with a dominant showing over Allen University, an NCAA Division II opponent. UW-Eau Claire blanked the Yellowjackets 50-0, winning all 10 matches.
Carter Schulz (So. – Rice Lake, Wis.),
Zach Sato (Jr. – Oswego, Ill.),
Colton Sund (Jr. – Prior Lake, Minn.),
Tristan Massie (Sr. – Hillsdale, Wis./Barron), Stricker and
Sloan Welch (Fr. – Arpin, Wis./Auburndale) all won via pin. Stricker's pin gave him his 100
th career victory. The Blugolds also picked up a pair of technical falls and a major decision to cruise to victory.
The dominance continued with a 57-0 victory over St. Andrews. Seven matches were wrestled, and the Blugolds won six of them via pin.
Travis Moelter (Fr. – River Falls, Wis.),
Tyler Fleetwood (Sr. – Fulton, Ill.), Sato,
Jan Hernandez-Soto (Jr. – Minneapolis, Minn./Patrick Henry), Massie and
Jackson Schichel (Sr. – Hastings, Minn.) all won via fall. The Blugolds also earned three wins via forfeit, and
Drew Kested (So. – Sterling, Ill.) won in a sudden victory.
UW-Eau Claire moved to 3-0 on the day with a 47-3 win over Huntingdon. The Blugolds won nine of the 10 matches, with all nine wins earning bonus points for the Blugolds. Schulz, Stricker and
Connor Collins (Sr. – Oshkosh, Wis./West) all earned pins, and Fleetwood, Kested, Sato, Sund and
Ian Pepple (Fr. – Hastings, Minn.) all won by technical fall. Massie won by major decision to move to 99 victories in his Blugold career.
The Blugolds closed out the day by defeating Reinhardt, the 14
th-ranked team in the NAIA, 34-9. The Blugolds earned four more pins, with Schulz, Fleetwood, Stricker and
Niall Schoenfelder (Jr. – Antioch, Ill.) all ending their matches early. Sund knocked off the fourth-ranked wrestler in the NAIA with an 11-9 decision at 157 pounds, and Sato earned a major decision at 149.
The Blugolds are now 12-4 in duals this season.
UW-Eau Claire will be right back in action on Sunday, January 7. They'll wrestle at the Hawk Classic at Huntingdon, with competition beginning at 9 a.m.
