Bartels, Harvey win titles at Northwoods Scramble

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team produced a pair of champions at the Northwoods Scramble on Saturday. Cael Bartels (So. – Chatfield, Minn.) and Jon Harvey (So. – Lake City, Minn./Lincoln) were the champions at 125 and 165 pounds, respectively.

Bartels went 4-0 to win the 125-pound title, winning three times by technical fall and once by pin in a dominant day individually.

Harvey went 3-1 to finish first at 165. He won his first two matches by decision and added a technical fall in his third. It was enough to clinch the title despite a defeat in his fourth match of round-robin action.

Ryan Goddard (So. – Oswego, Ill.) placed second at 133 pounds. He fell in his first match of round-robin wrestling, but won the second by major decision to earn runner-up status.

Jacob Bruner (Fr. – Pewaukee, Wis.) took second at 149 pounds with a 3-1 record. He recorded two pins on the day.

Brandon Meister (Fr. – Spooner, Wis.) was the runner-up at 174 pounds. He won his first two matches of the day before falling in the finals to take second place.

Terry Smith (So. – Tacoma, Wash./Curtis) took second at 184 pounds. He dropped his opening match, but responded with back-to-back victories afterward to place second. Ryan Lexvold (Fr. – Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) finished third at 184.

Luke Krier (Jr. – Janesville, Minn.) placed fourth at 141 pounds. He went 2-2, winning by decision in the championship quarterfinals and by technical fall in the consolation semis.

Blake Heal (Fr. – Schofield, Wis./D.C. Everest) earned a fifth-place finish after dropping his first two matches, winning by technical fall in the fifth-place match at 141. Patrick Boyle (So. – Libertyville, Ill.) placed fifth at 165, earning a pin in his final match of the day.

Marcus Hankins (Sr. – Sauk City, Wis./Sauk Prairie) took sixth at 197 pounds.
