MADISON, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire had two student-athletes named as Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for Sept. 18-24.
Samantha Fuchs (Jr. - DeForest, Wis.) is the women's tennis singles player of the week, and
Ava Glenn (So. - Montgomery, Ill./Yorkville) is the women's soccer defensive player of the week.
Fuchs made it further into the singles bracket than any other WIAC competitor at the ITA Midwest Regional held Sept. 22-23. The ninth-seeded Blugold reached the singles quarterfinals by recording three victories at the tournament. That included a 5-7, 6-4, 10-7 defeat of third-seeded Cassandra Lee of UW-Whitewater in the round of 16. Fuchs won her first round match 6-0, 6-0 over Reese Williams of Wartburg College (Iowa) and defeated 27th-seeded Lauren Lindow of UW-La Crosse 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 in the round of 32.
Glenn started on the Blugolds' back line and helped spearhead two shutouts during the week. Her performance included a 90-minute shift in a shutout of regionally-ranked Macalester College (Minn.) on Sept. 21. The Blugolds kept the No. 7-ranked Scots off the scoreboard just a couple of days after doing the same to St. Olaf College (Minn.) in a 0-0 draw. Glenn logged 66 minutes in the shutout of the Oles.
