MILWAUKEE (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire wrestling team produced six placewinners at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational on Saturday at the Kern Center. The Blugolds took fifth place in the team standings.
Connor Collins (Sr. - Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West) was the top placewinner for the Blugolds, taking third at 184 pounds.
Landon Church (Fr. - Jordan, Minn./West Scott),
Preston Carlisle (So. - Red Wing, Minn./Cannon Falls) and
Charles Gierke (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) took fourth at 149, 174, and 184, respectively.
Tristan Drier (Fr. - Cadott, Wis.) and
Brandon Meister (Fr. - Spooner, Wis.) took sixth at 165 and 174, respectively.
Collins went 3-1 to take third. Church went 4-2 and Carlisle finished 3-2. Gierke was 2-2 and Drier and Meister went 2-2 and 2-3, respectively.
Travis Moelter (Fr. - River Falls, Wis.) was the consolation champion at 125 pounds.
Sloan Welch (Fr. - Arpin, Wis./Auburndale) was the 285-pound consolation champion.
The Blugolds had 15 wrestlers compete at the tournament, which was won by top-ranked Augsburg. UW-Eau Claire tallied 90 team points.
UW-Eau Claire returns to action on Thursday, December 7, with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual against UW-Whitewater. Wrestling begins at 7 p.m. at the McPhee Center.
