EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 2-0 victory over UW-Stout on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds scored twice in the second half to earn a win on Senior Day.
The Blugolds were in control for big chunks of the game, and was finally rewarded in the 77th minute.
Ava Johnson (So. - Elk River, Minn.) took a pass from
Josie Ellingson (Jr. - Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) across the box and knocked it into the back of the net to give UW-Eau Claire a 1-0 advantage.
UW-Eau Claire doubled its lead when
Valerie Giallombardo (Fr. - Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) assisted a goal by
Jayda Swopes (Fr. - Janesville, Wis./Milton). Swopes beat the UW-Stout keeper in a race to the ball and slotted it home to make it 2-0 in favor of UW-Eau Claire in the 83rd minute.
The Blugolds outshot UW-Stout 21-7.
Kennedy Boll (Jr. - Franklin, Wis.) made five saves to earn a shutout.
UW-Eau Claire honored its seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program during the day's festivities.
The Blugolds (10-4-3, 4-2-1) will next be in action with the opening round of the WIAC Tournament. The Blugolds are the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 UW-Whitewater at Simpson Field on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m.
