PRESCOTT, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's cross country team competed at the WIAC Championships on Saturday, October 28. The Blugolds took second out of eight teams, scoring 46 points. UW-La Crosse won the meet with a team score of 29 points.
The Blugolds executed a strong race plan, with the highlight of the day being
Carolyn Shult (Sr. – Augusta, Wis.) becoming a WIAC champion after coming in runner-up the past two years. Shult crossed the line in a time of 21:25.6 to win the race.
Following behind Shult was
Ava Matejcek (So. – Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) placing eighth overall in a time of 22:29.4. Next in was
Keeley Behr (So. - Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) in ninth place with a time of 22:29.4,
Morgan Dahl (Sr. – Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) in 10
th place with a time of 22:29.6, and
Mikayla Hady (Sr. – Mount Auburn, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin) in 18
th place with a time of 23:00.0.
"It was great to see all the women run a tough race today," Shult said. "Everyone had big goals going in and it was fun to see how well all the ladies worked together and competed throughout the race. It was a great step forward for our team as we go into the end of the season and there's definitely more there that makes me excited for the next couple of weeks."
The Blugold women will be back in action Friday, November 3 at 5 p.m., racing at the Luther Saga Cup in Decorah, Iowa.
