LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's golf team cruised to the title at the UW-Stout Invite on Monday at the Highlands Course at Grand Geneva Resort. The Blugolds' top team won the meet by 23 strokes for the program's second tournament title this fall.
Nick Mueller (Fr. - Baldwin, Wis./St. Croix Central) earned his first collegiate victory by finishing at 6 under par to win medalist honors. The top three individuals at the tournament all came from UW-Eau Claire.
UW-Eau Claire's top team scored 571 across two rounds. The Blugolds' second team finished fourth with a 596.
Mueller was the clubhouse leader after the first round, and did even better in the second round. He fired a 67, finishing one stroke above the program record, to finish the two-day meet at 6 under. He was 4 under par in the second round. He made seven birdies on Monday.
Carson Brock (Sr. - Onalaska, Wis./Holmen) took second place individually by finishing 1 over par for the tournament. He rose nine spots on the leaderboard by carding a 69 in the final round, bringing his two-day total to 143.
Ben Pausha (So. - Delafield, Wis./Kettle Moraine) earned a third-place finish by closing at 2 over par. He scored a two-day 144.
Corey Boerner (Sr. - Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy) also secured a spot near the top, finishing at 4 over par to tie for fifth place. He carded matching 73s in each round.
Nick Amtmann (Jr. - Nashotah, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Owen Covey (Jr. - New Richmond, Wis.) were both part of a tie for 13th. They each shot a 149 at the tournament.
Fred Moede (Jr. - Savage, Minn./Prior Lake) and
Alec Sosnowski (So. - Verona, Wis./Middleton) each earned a tie for 22nd at 151, and
Spencer Lynch (Fr. - Neenah, Wis./St. Mary Catholic) was close behind at 152 for a tie for 26th.
Braeden Resnick (So. - Rice Lake, Wis.) tied for 30th at 153.
Griffin Oberneder (So. - Beloit, Wis./Beloit Memorial) rounded out the scoring for the Blugolds by tying for 40th at 156.
UW-Eau Claire wraps up its fall schedule with a trip to Destin, Florida, from Oct. 15-17. The Blugolds will play at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational that weekend.
