Box Score

By Kyle Naber, UWEC Sports Information

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire women's soccer team took returned to Bollinger Field Saturday where the Blugolds fell to Concordia-Moorhead University (Minn.) 2-1 in overtime.

Box Score | Coach Yengo's recap

The game was a tale of two halves and in the first half was all Cobbers. Concordia-Moorhead knocked in the first goal at the eight minute mark. The Blugolds were not able to get much going offensively as they only had one shot on goal. The Cobbers, on the other hand were putting the pressure on as they had nine shots, with one going in and four more being on the mark.

The second half told a story of a brand new game. Eau Claire was able to get off eight shots in the half.  As the game reached the 61st minute senior Caroline Henderson (Sr.-Duluth, MN/East) added the tying goal thanks to an assist from fellow senior Tara Dennehy (Sr.-Eugene, OR/Churchill).  Neither team was able to add the go-ahead goal before the final buzzer's sound, so it was once again a overtime game for the Blugolds.

In the first overtime, the Blugolds looked to end the golden goal sudden death early. Eau Claire had a number of close calls including a shot that hit off the top of the cross bar and a fantastic shot by Dennehy after a goal kick. As the first overtime period was winding down the final seconds the Cobbers went on the attack. The final ten second countdown was on its way, but it did not reach zero before the Cobbers could take the lead and the game.

"It's the mental errors and today's game the two goals were really mental mistakes more than physical mistakes," said Yengo. "We have to clean that up; if we clean that up we turn a tight game like that into a victory."

The Blugolds (0-2-3) will hit the road to take on Luther (Iowa) on Wednesday, September 16th at 7:00 p.m. This will be a short one game road trip for Eau Claire as they will return home for the weekend to open up Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) conference play against UW-River Falls.
