Men's Golf Takes Third at St. John's Spring Invitational

MONTICELLO, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team placed third out of 16 teams at the two-day Saint John's Spring Invitational.

Heading into Sunday, the Blugolds were tied with St. Cloud State University (Minn.) for second place. Eau Claire finished in third, with a total of 884 strokes, 28 over par on the weekend. The team missed second place by two strokes, being edged out Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) after a second day surge from the Cobbers. St. John's University (Minn.) won handily, shooting 854, two under par.

Individually, three Blugolds finished in the top fifteen.

Loren Churness (Jr.-Durand, Wis.) finished tied for fourth place, shooting 217, three over par on the weekend.

Jimmy Hutchings (So.-Hudson, Wis.) ended up tied for ninth at six over par, while Tim McCormick (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) tied for 11th at plus seven.

The final regular season competition for Eau Claire will come Friday, April 30 in Middleton, Wis. when the team attends the Edgewood College Invitational. Players will tee off at 9 a.m.
