Men's Hockey Suffers 8-1 Loss at St. Norbert

GREEN BAY, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association leader and third-ranked St. Norbert College tonight 8-1 at the Cornerstone Center.

The Green Knights notched the scoreboard first at 3:49 in the first period, scoring again at 4:30 and 5:46 to give them the 3-0 lead.

The Blugolds got their lone goal from Isaiah Bennis (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) at 11:09 with assists from Fred Bidinger (Fr.-Sartell, Minn.) and Travis Peckskamp (Fr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn.) to end the first period 3-1.

The Blugolds were unable to fend off the Green Knight offense as they scored two more goals in the second period and three more goals in the third to end the game with a score of 8-1. The eight goals are the most the Blugolds have given up this season.

The Blugolds were outshot by the Green Knights 44-22. It was just the sixth time Eau Claire was outshot all season. The Blugolds were unable to capitalize off of their five power play attempts while the Green Knights converted three of their six attempts. The Blugolds have allowed three power-play goals just one other time this season, a 3-0 loss to UW-Superior on Nov. 21.

Tyler Brigl (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) played the full game for the Blugolds, adding 36 stops to his record. St. Norbert's B.J. O'Brien made 21 saves, playing all 60 minutes.

Eau Claire drops to 6-12-3 on the season and 2-9-3 in the NCHA while St. Norbert extends its record to 17-3-1 overall and 12-2 in NCHA play. One of the St. Norbert's two conference losses was suffered against the Blugolds two weeks ago.

Up next, the Blugolds will head to Menomonie this Thursday for an I-94 showdown against UW-Stout. The puck is set to hit center ice at 7:30 p.m.
