Men's Hockey Comes up Just Short to St. Norbert

Box Score

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Despite jumping out to a 1-0 lead, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team was unable to hold on and fell 3-2 to third-ranked St. Norbert College at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.

While the Blugolds have defeated St. Norbert just three times in history, it looked like tonight would be the Blugolds' fourth as they held the lead twice and never let St. Norbert get too far ahead.

Isaiah Bennis (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) put the Blugolds up 1-0 at the 13:24 mark in the first period and held the lead going into the locker room for the first time.

However, St. Norbert took just 3:30 to light the lamp and tie the game up at 1-1 in the second period. The Blugolds answered back seven minutes later with a Jordan Singer (Fr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) goal on a power-play and the Blugolds would once again head back to the locker room for the second intermission on top.

But the third-ranked opponent wouldn't give the Blugolds an inch in the third period, outshooting Eau Claire 11-7 while finding the net twice. The Green Knights tied the game up at 2:07 in the third and went ahead just under nine minutes later with a power-play goal.

For the night, St. Norbert edged the Blugolds in shots 35-31. The game was played fairly clean as St. Norbert had just three penalties and Eau Claire had four.

Tyler Brigl (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) was given the loss for Eau Claire between the pipes as he stopped 32 shots and played 59 minutes. The Green Knights' B.J. O'Brien played the entire 60 minutes and stopped 29 shots.

The Blugolds are now 5-8-3 on the year and 1-5-3 in conference play while St. Norbert improves to 13-2-1 overall and 8-1-0 in the conference.

The Blugolds and Green Knights will wrap up the weekend series tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
