Two Blugolds Record Hat Tricks as Soccer Wins 14-0

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Katie Richter (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis./West) and Gina Christenbury (Jr.-Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) each recorded hat tricks as the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Superior 14-0 at the Bollinger Fields today.

The 14 goals scored by the Blugolds is the second most in a game in program history. The most is 17, achieved on October 16, 1999 also against Superior at Bollinger. With Lisa Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) recording the eventual game-winner at 5:38, Richter followed with two at 9:51 and 19:22, respectively, to give the Blugolds the 3-0 lead. She scored her third goal of the contest at 49:17. Two of the three goals were assisted by Marco.

Christenbury picked her first goal of the game, which was also her first of the season, up at 38:37 and followed up with two more in the second half. Her goals in the second, the Blugolds' 11th and 12th of the game, came less than 30 seconds apart.

Marco and Richelle Shannon (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) also picked up two goals apiece while Shyla Gilbertson (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.), Emily Alsheskie (Fr.-Plymouth, Wis./St. Mary's Springs), Amanda Shelton (Sr.-Brown Deer, Wis.) and Emily Kidd (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) each recorded one.

Kidd, who scored the Blugolds' 13th goal, played in the goal for the first half before she was relieved by Cameron Stoeger (So.-Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) in the second. Neither goalkeeper picked up any saves as the Yellowjackets had no shots on goal.

The Blugolds finished the game with 39 shots to Superior's one, which 30 of the Blugolds' being on-goal. The Yellowjackets' goalkeeper Arianna Livingston recorded 16 saves while she allowed 14 goals.

Eau Claire is now 7-2-1 overall and 4-0-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The Blugolds have now won six straight games. Superior falls to 1-9-0 on the season and 0-4-0 in the WIAC. Eau Claire is now 18-0 all-time against the Yellowjackets.

The Blugolds will be back at home Saturday to take on UW-La Crosse. The game will be the last WIAC contest of the season at home for Eau Claire this season, and it will also be Parents Day. Action will start at 2 p.m. at the Bollinger Fields.
