Soccer Ends Home Stand With 6-1 Win

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Playing in its third home game in the last five days, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Platteville 6-1 at the Bollinger Fields today.

The Blugolds are now 5-2-1 on the season and 3-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Platteville dropped to 4-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.

Eau Claire, which has never lost to Platteville before (21-0 all-time), outshot the Pioneers 36-4 today, 25 of which were on-goal.

The Blugolds scored four goals in the first half while Platteville scored its lone goal near the end of the half. Alli Kishaba (Sr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) scored the game's opening goal at 26:47 and Sam Krueger (Sr.-Elkhorn, Wis.) added another three minutes later. Ali Mater (Jr.-Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) added two more, one at 37:47 and another at 39:18, to make the score 4-0. Platteville's Marissa Mol then found the goal for the Pioneers to make the score 4-1 at the half.

In the second half, Shyla Gilbertson (Fr.-Waunakee, Wis.) scored her sixth goal of the season to give the Blugolds the 5-1 lead at 68:50. Rachel Nerison (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) closed out the day's scoring with a goal at 75:19 off a Jamie Schiesel (Jr.-Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong) corner kick. The Blugolds finished the day with 14 corner kicks while Platteville had two.

Emily Kidd (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) opened the game in-goal for Eau Claire and played until 72:08. She finished with two saves and one goal against. Cameron Stoeger (So.-Milwaukee, Wis./Brown Deer) finished the game, playing 17:52. Kaitlyn Wiedeman played the full 90 minutes for Platteville and recorded 19 saves while allowing six goals.

Up next, Eau Claire will travel to Decorah, Iowa for a game against Luther College. The game is set to begin at 2 p.m. Sunday.
