Men's Golf Takes Third At Blue Devil Invite

MENOMONIE, Wis. - With two UW-Eau Claire men's golfers finishing tied for second, the Blugolds took home third place out of nine teams today at UW-Stout's Blue Devil Invitational at the Chippewa Valley Golf Club.

The Blue Devils finished with the top spot with 295 strokes while St. Thomas took second with 302 strokes. The Blugolds totaled 309 strokes with their third place finish.

UW-Stout's Derek Holmes took medalist honors after shooting an even 71 while Loren Churness (So.-Durand, Wis.) and Ryan Grip (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) tied for second with four others after all shot 74.

Jake Brookshaw (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.) finished with 80 strokes for the Blugolds and tied for 21st while Ben Ziemann (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) totaled 81 to tie for 25th. K.R. Rucker (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) finished the course tied for 33rd with 83 strokes.

Jimmy Hutchings (Fr.-Hudson, Wis.) led the Blugolds' second team, which finished fifth overall, after coming away with 77 strokes and tying for 12th.

Next Monday and Tuesday the Blugolds will be in Minnesota for the Gustavus Adolphus Spring Invite. Round one will be contested in Le Sueur while round two will be played in Jordan.
