WBCA Pink Zone Event Set For Wednesday

Box Score

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team will join more than 1,250 teams from around the nation for this season's WBCA Pink Zone game when they host UW-Stevens Point this Wednesday in Zorn Arena.

The WBCA Pink Zone initiative is a global, unified effort for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. In 2008, this initiative, formerly known as "Think Pink," had over 1,100 teams and organizations participating, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.

For the third consecutive year, the UW-Eau Claire women's basketball program is joining in the national effort. During the game, players and coaches will wear pink to support the cause and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game. Pink ribbons will also be handed out at the door for fans to wear. Pink Zone t-shirts will be sold at the door, with all of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society, which strives to assist those fighting the disease through research, advocacy, education, and service. The Blugolds will also be signing pink and white basketballs to be given away in a drawing at halftime for anyone who donates to the cause by purchasing one of the Pink Zone t-shirts.
