Men's Hockey Drops Second Game to Stevens Point

Box Score

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team lost its second game in two nights to conference rival UW-Stevens Point by a margin of 4-2 at K.B. Willett Arena tonight.

Eau Claire drew first blood as Joe Bluhm (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) scored his third goal of the season on a power play, 14:11 into the first period. D.J. Clark (Sr.-Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) and Tyler Trudell (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./South) were credited with assists on the score. However, three second period goals by the Pointers would put the game out of reach for the Blugolds.

Eau Claire looked to make things interesting in the third with Bluhm and Brant Marple (Sr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) assisting Skylar Christoffersen (Sr.-Langley, B.C./Brookswood) for his second goal of the year at 7:58, but another late goal by Stevens Point would give UWSP a 4-2 victory.

Eau Claire outshot Stevens Point 28-25 in the game and edged the Pointers in penalties, recording 11 for 22 minutes to Stevens Point's 14 for 28 minutes. Eau Claire was 1-for-12 on power plays, while Stevens Point finished 1-for-9.

Tyler Brigl (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) played all 60 minutes in the loss, allowing four goals and collecting 21 saves.

The Blugolds (3-7-3, 1-4-3 NCHA) are off until January 8, 2010 when they take on St. Mary's (Minn.) for a 7 p.m. matchup in Winona, Minn.
