Box Score RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team came up short against undefeated UW-River Falls 70-59 Thursday night in River Falls.
A Laura Olson (So.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) three-pointer gave the Blugolds (3-5, 2-1 WIAC) a three point lead with 11 minutes to play in the first half, but the 23rd-ranked Falcons (7-0, 3-0 WIAC) would take the lead with 10:41 remaining, and held it for the rest of the game.
Eau Claire committed 34 turnovers in the game, while River Falls gave the ball away 19 times. The Falcons were able to capitalize, scoring 31 points off Blugold miscues, while Eau Claire scored only 11 points off Falcon turnovers.
The teams shot evenly for the game, with the Blugolds shooting 40.7 percent (22-for-54) and River Falls shooting 40.9 percent (27-for-66). Eau Claire shot 63.2 percent (12-for-19) from the free throw line while River Falls shot 47.6 percent (10-for-21).
Hannah Mesick (Jr.-Chatfield, Minn.) led the Blugolds with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Callie Halama (So.-Independence, Wis.) also recorded a double-double, scoring 18 points and collecting 11 boards. Mesick also had three blocks and four steals in the game.
The Blugolds return home for a matchup with conference rival UW-Stout on Saturday, December 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at Zorn Arena.
