Soccer Drops WIAC Tournament Championship Game

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - In a defensive battle between the UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stevens Point soccer teams, the Blugolds fell short 1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament Championship game today.

Stevens Point, which won the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament today, improves to 15-3-1 on the season while Eau Claire falls to 10-8-2.

The teams combined for 15 shots on the day with the Pointers leading the way with eight to the Blugolds' seven.

While the game remained tied the majority of the day, Stevens Point put the lone goal on the board at 65:55. Jackie Spees scored her 10th goal of the season, unassisted.

The Blugolds finished with four shots-on-goal and Katie Richter (Fr.-Waukesha, Wis./West) led the team with two of them.

Emily Kidd (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) played the entire 90 minutes in the goal and recorded four saves. For the Pointers, Liz Hunter saved four shots while she played the full game in the net.

Eau Claire will now have to wait to see if they are selected for the NCAA post-season tournament. The announcement will be made tomorrow on NCAA.com with complete brackets and sites being announced Monday.
