Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team picked up its second straight victory with a 3-1 win tonight over 10th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), which took second place in NCAA Division III last year, at Hobbs Ice Center.
The Blugolds (2-2-0) struck first in the game with an even-strength goal at 7:49 from Joe Bluhm (Sr.-Red Wing, Minn.) with assists from Jordan Singer (Fr.-Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial) and Joe Freund (Fr.-Ayr, Ontario/Southwood).
Eau Claire's Brant Marple (Sr.-Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) struck again for the Blugolds at 2:16 into the second period with an even-strength goal and assists from Bluhm and Tyler Trudell (Sr.-Waukesha, Wis./South).
In the third period, the Blugolds scored their third goal of the night at 1:55 with a power-play goal from Isaiah Bennis (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and assists from Singer and Marple to give the Blugolds the 3-0 lead. Gustavus scored their first and only goal of the night, short-handed, at 7:59 in the third to make the final score of the game 3-1 in favor of Eau Claire.
The Blugolds outshot Gustavus 39-31 on the night. Tyler Brigl (Sr.-Eagan, Minn./Eastview) played the full 60 minutes between the pipes for the Blugolds and picked up 30 saves while the Gustavus Tyler Venne recorded 36 saves, playing 59:20. Before the Gusties' goal tonight, Brigl had held opponents scoreless for more than 113 minutes of play.
Up next, Eau Claire will play its third game in a four-game home stand against conference opponent UW-River Falls. The puck is set to hit the ice of Hobbs Ice Center at 7 p.m. next Friday.
