Men's Golf Wins Ronnie Eastman Invite

ONALASKA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finished the Ronnie Eastman Invitational, hosted by Viterbo University, in first place out of 14 teams today.

The Blugolds finished nine strokes better than the rest of the field with 591. Viterbo took second with 600 strokes while St. Ambrose University completed the two-round, 36-hole tournament with 606 to take third.

Derrick Meier of Viterbo finished with 144 strokes, even for the tournament, to win medalist honors in the 77-golfer field.

The Blugolds finished with four top-10 performances, led by Loren Churness (Jr.-Durand, Wis.), who took third place. He finished with 146 strokes (+2).

Tim McCormick (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) completed the tournament with 147 strokes, tying for fourth place while Jimmy Hutchings (So.-Hudson, Wis.) tied for sixth with 148 strokes. Tying for ninth place overall was Ryan Grip (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) with 150 strokes.

Jamie Krula (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) also competed at the tournament and finished tied for 33rd with 163 strokes.

The Blugolds will wrap up the fall season next weekend with the three-day Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic. Golfers will be on the course Saturday-Monday.
