ONALASKA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team finished in first place out of 14 teams after round one of the Ronnie Eastman Invitational in Onalaska today.
Eau Claire finished the day with a total of 286 strokes, with St. Ambrose University coming second place with 304 strokes and Viterbo University placing third with a stroke count of 305.
Dusty Drenth of St. Ambrose University led the pack individually with a score of 70.
The Blugolds' Jimmy Hutchings (So.-Hudson, Wis.) and Ryan Grip (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) followed in second place with a score count of 71. Tying for fourth place individually, Tim McCormick (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) and Loren Churness (Jr.-Durand, Wis.) each scored a 72 to give the Blugolds four golfers placing in the top five individually. Jamie Krula (So.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) tied for 33rd with a score of 83.
The Blugolds will end the Ronnie Eastman Invitational tomorrow and will then head to St. Peter, Minn. next Saturday for the three-day Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic.
