Women's Cross Country Wins WIAC Title

WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - For the third year in a row, the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship.

Today's 6K race was contested at UW-Whitewater and the fourth-ranked Blugolds finished with 29 points. With the Blugolds winning their third straight crown, they become the first team to garner three straight first-place finishes since UW-Oshkosh won 15 consecutive titles from 1986-2000.

UW-La Crosse took second place today with 57 points while UW-Oshkosh finished third with 71.

Alyssa Sybilrud (So.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville) led the Blugolds today as she took second place with a time of 22:19. Hannah Humbach (Sr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) came in three seconds later to take third place overall.

The next four Blugolds came in one after another as Beth Easker (Jr.-Wittenberg, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood) took seventh, Margaret Ho (Jr.-Wisconsin Rapids, Wis./Lincoln) finished eighth, Elly Prunty (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) finished ninth and Kacey Rindy (So.-Fennimore, Wis.) took 10th.

Next Friday the Blugolds will compete in Luther College's JV Cup. The following Saturday (Nov. 14) the Blugolds will look to defend their NCAA Regional crown as they compete at this year's regional in Winneconne.
