Box Score STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team fell to UW-Stevens Point 3-1 in Saturday's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup.
The win gave the Pointers, who are undefeated in conference play, their second consecutive WIAC regular season championship and their 13th overall title.
The Blugolds recorded 11 shot, five of which were on-goal, while the Pointers managed 15, 10 on-goal, including 11 total shots in the first half. Stevens Point committed five fouls to Eau Claire's three and the Pointers took five corner kicks to the Blugolds' four.
Kirsti Nickels recorded a hat-trick in the first half for the Pointers, scoring goals at 2:31, 10:52 and 22:51. Stevens Point would hold the 3-0 lead until the 55 minute-mark, when a corner kick from Megan Hillesheim (Jr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) assisted Lisa Marco (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial), who headed the ball in for her fourth goal of the season.
Blugold goalie Emily Kidd (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) played all 90 minutes, recording seven saves and allowing the three goals to Nickels.
The Blugolds (8-5-2, 5-1-1 WIAC) return home for a game with Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) at the Bollinger Fields tomorrow. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
