Women's Cross Country Takes First At Griak Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team stormed through the 36-team field to take first place in the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invite at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.

For the meet, Wartburg (Iowa) took second, UW-La Crosse placed third, Carleton (Minn.) finished fourth and St. Thomas (Minn.) wrapped up the top five.

The Blugolds, who are ranked second in the latest Division III poll, had a stellar overall performance, with four of seven runners finishing in the top 20. Mary Palmer (Sr.-Anoka, Minn) led the Blugolds today, finishing in seventh place with a time of 22:51. Finishing 14th was Elly Prunty (Jr.-Antigo, Wis.) with a time of 23:17. Just two seconds behind her was Beth Easker (So.-Wittenberg, Wis./Wittenberg-Birnamwood)at 23:19, good for 15th place. Hannah Humbach (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life Christian) took 20th place for the Blugolds with a time of 23:27. Alyssa Sybilrud (Fr.-Savage, Minn./Burnsville) rounded out the top five finishers for Eau Claire finishing in 24:08, good for 54th place.

The Blugolds return home for the Blugold Open on October 3. The event takes place at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, with a 4 p.m. start.
