ELK RIVER, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team is currently in eighth place out of 23 teams with 305 strokes after the first round of the 2008 Gustavus Adolphus Twin Cities Classic at Elk River Country Club.
St. John's University (Minn.) leads the tournament with 284 strokes overall, four under par. Central College (Iowa) and Illinois Wesleyan are tied for second place with 290 strokes overall. Tied for fourth place are Luther College and Nebraska Wesleyan with 295 strokes.
St. John's Joe Schoolmeesters leads on the individual side, shooting a five under par score of 67 today.
Eau Claire was led by Loren Churness (So.-Durand, Wis.), who finished the first round with 73 strokes. He is currently tied for 11th overall. Jake Brookshaw (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.) is tied for 23rd after shooting 75 today, while Ryan Grip (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) finished with 76 in a tie for 36th place. K.R. Rucker (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) is tied for 87th place with 81 strokes and Adam Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) finished the round with 83 strokes, tied for 97th.
The second round of the tournament will be played tomorrow at 11 a.m. at The Links at Northfork in Ramsey, Minn. The final round of competition will take place Monday at White Bear Yacht Club at 10 a.m.
