EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - With 316 strokes today, the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team sits in ninth place out of 15 teams after the first round of the 2008 Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invite at the Eau Claire Country Club.
UW-Stout leads the field with 298 strokes. St. John's is in second place after shooting 301 today, while Gustavus finished the first round with 304 for a third place spot.
St. John's Joe Schoolmeesters leads the 79-golfer field with a 69, two strokes under par, after day one. St. Cloud's Danny Anderson and UW-Stout's Garret Larson are currently tied for second place after shooting 72 today.
Ryan Grip (So.-Wausau, Wis./East) led the Blugolds for the day, shooting 76 on the par-71 course. He is currently tied for 13th place overall. Loren Churness (So.-Durand, Wis.) shot a 79 and is tied for 28th, while Jake Brookshaw (Fr.-River Falls, Wis.) finished the round tied for 36th with 80 strokes. K.R. Rucker (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) came in with 81 today, in a tie for 42nd, and Andy Dercks (So.-Clintonville, Wis.) shot 86 for the first round. He is currently tied for 72nd.
Monday the Blugolds will be back at the Eau Claire Country Club for the final day of the Frank Wrigglesworth Invite. Teams begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
