Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team wrapped up its trip to Texas, defeating host institution No. 23 Trinity University 3-2 tonight.

The Blugolds, who tied 1-1 No. 18 Hardin-Simmons last evening, are now 1-0-1 on the season. Trinity, which came back to defeat No. 20 UW-Stevens Point last night 4-2, falls to 1-1-0.

The game was played pretty evenly with each team taking 15 shots. The Blugolds did have more scoring opportunities with nine shots on goal compared to Trinity's three.

Amy Smith (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) struck for the Blugolds first tonight, just over five minutes into the contest. Trinity answered less than nine minutes later to tie it up, but the Blugolds were able to regain the lead going into the half Rachel Nerison (Fr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) goal, the first in her collegiate career.

The Blugolds looked like they had the game secured following a goal by Alli Kishaba (Jr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) with less than four minutes left in regulation, but Trinity answered two minutes to put the pressure on. Eau Claire was able to hold on though to capture its first victory of the season.

Allie Rivard (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) was in the net all 90 minutes and had two saves.

Next Saturday the Blugolds play their home-opener when Augsburg College (Minn.) comes to town. The game will begin at 1 p.m. at the Bollinger Fields.
