Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas. - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team began its season today, playing No. 18 Hardin-Simmons University (Texas) to a 1-1 tie.
No scoring occurred in the first half of the game. The Blugolds did have opportunities but could not find the net as Hardin-Simmons' goalkeeper Christi Carr stopped 10 Blugold shots on goal.
Only a few minutes into the second half, however, Amy Smith (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) scored the Blugolds' first goal of the season to give them the lead. Liz Kooistra (Sr.-Lakeville, Minn.) assisted on the goal.
The lead lasted until 77:38 when Amy Kuyendall scored for the Cowgirls to tie it up. The score remained unchanged through the rest of the second half and both overtimes.
The Blugolds outshot Hardin-Simmons 26-9 and had nine corner kicks to the Cowgirls' three. The Blugolds also had 16 shots on goal while Hardin-Simmons was only able to put up five.
The Blugolds will be back in action tomorrow night when they take on Trinity University (Texas) at 7 p.m.
