Men's Golf Makes The Cut For Final Two Days Of Nationals

BRASELTON, Ga. - With two days in the books at the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships, UW-Eau Claire's team is in 23rd place out of 35 teams at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia.

Following the second day of competition, the 35-team field is cut to 23, meaning Eau Claire just made it to continue nationals play.

St. John Fisher College (N.Y.), which was in third place after day one, shot eight strokes better today (294) for a two-day total of 596. Oglethorpe University (Ga.) is in second place overall with 602, while the University of Redlands (Calif.) is in third with 604. St. John's University (Minn.), which was tied for 14th with Eau Claire after the first day of competition, moved up to fourth place after shooting the best round today (291). The Blugolds shot 11 strokes worse today (325) for a two-day total of 639.

St. John Fisher's Scott Harris, Jr., who led after the first day, stayed at the top of the field and remained one-under par overall. Yesterday he shot a 68 while he had 71 strokes today on the par-71 course. The next closest competitor, Will Scarborough of Wesley College, is four strokes behind.

Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) and Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) both shot 77 today, making their totals 153 (tied for 32nd) and 154 (tied for 42nd), respectively. Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) is currently tied for 114th place after totaling 164 strokes overall. Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) is tied for 139th place with 168 strokes, while Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, Wis.) shot 95 today for a two-day total of 184, in 175th place.

Eau Claire will be back on the course tomorrow for the third day of action at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga.
