BRASELTON, Ga. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team currently sits tied for 14th out of 35 teams after day one of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia.
Eau Claire totaled 314 strokes today, tying with St. John's (Minn.). Last season St. John's took home the title at the Division III Championship. This season the University of La Verne (S.C.) currently leads the field, shooting 290. Skidmore College (N.Y.) is in second with 301, while St. John Fisher College (N.Y.) is one stroke behind in third place. While all teams golfed on par-71 courses, some competed on the Chateau Course while others competed on the Woodlands Course.
The individual leader after the first day is St. John Fisher's Scott Harris, Jr., who totaled 68 strokes. Pacific University's Max Bonk is one stroke behind Harris for a second place spot today.
Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) had the best finish today for the Blugolds, tying for 29th place and shooting 76 (+5). Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) is currently tied for 44th as he totaled 77 strokes on day one. Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) shot a 79 today and is tied for 62nd overall. Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) is tied for 99th place with 82 strokes, while Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, Wis.) shot 89, tied for 161st place. All Blugold golfers competed on the Chateau Course today.
The Blugolds will begin teeing off in day two of the championships at 8:00 a.m. (EDT) on the Woodlands Golf Course at Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Ga.
