Men's Golf In Fourth After Day One Of Invite

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team is currently in fourth place out of six teams after day one of the 2008 Fred B. Kravetz Invitational at Irondequoit Country Club.

This is the third time the Blugolds have participated in the invite. The first time was in 2002 and the last time was in 2003. Eau Claire finished in second both times.

St. John Fisher leads the field with a 285 strokes, while Ohio Wesleyan University is in second with a 295. Skidmore College sits in third with a 297 and Eau Claire is four strokes behind them with a 301. The University of Rochester (N.Y.) shot 306 today for fifth place, while Nebraska Wesleyan is in sixth with 313.

Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) was the highest Blugold finisher today, shooting a 72, tied for fifth on the par-71 course. Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) is one stroke behind Wendt, shooting 73 for an eighth place spot. Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) is also one stroke back from Bauer and tied for ninth place.

Shooting an 82 for 30th place was Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.), while Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, Wis.) is in 33rd with 90 strokes.

Tomorrow the golfers will finish up the invite at Oak Hill Country Club East in Rochester. The tournament is set to begin at 1 p.m.
