ST. PETER, Minn. - The results are in from day one of The Bobby King Invitational, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), and the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team is sitting tenth place out of 16 teams.
Two rounds were shot today and the Blugods came back to the clubhouse with a score of 627. After day one the leader is St. Johns University (Minn.) with a stroke total of 581. Gustavus came in second with a 590 and in third was Luther College (Iowa) with a 601. Rounding out the top five was St. Olaf College (Minn.) with a 608 and UW-Stout with a 612.
Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, WI) turned in the best performance of any Blugold shooting a 148. Wendts score was the result of two rounds of 74 and was good enough to place him ninth amongst individuals. Wendt is six strokes behind leaders Joe Schoolmeesters of St. Johns and Mark Stuckey of Gustavus. Both Schoolmeesters and Stuckey are plus two.
The highest Blugold after Wendt was Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inner Grove Heights, MN/Eagan) tied for 38th place. Bauer shot an 81 and a 77 in today's two rounds of action for a total of 158. Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, WI) finished two strokes behind Bauer with a 160 as he shot 78 and 82. Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, WI) and Ben Zieman (So.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) were the other two Blugolds who golfed today. Milner shot a 163 and Zieman a 165.
The action will continue tomorrow when the tournament changes courses and moves to The Ridges at Sand Creek in Jordan, Minnesota for the final round of play.
