Stout Takes Care Of Men's Hockey

MENOMONIE, Wis. - Facing No. 12 UW-Stout, the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team managed one score as it fell 4-1 tonight.

The Blugolds drop in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) games to 4-6-0. The overall record is 8-13-0. The Blue Devils improve to 6-4-0 and 14-6-1.

Stout got on the board early with a power-play goal just 2:33 into the game. Another evenhanded score occurred about five minutes later as Stout built a 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils outshot Eau Claire 14-to-8 in the period.

The Blugolds would outshoot Stout by one in the middle period, but neither side lit up the lamp. In the third, the Blugolds got back into it with an evensided goal at 5:26. Andrew Johnson (Jr.-Andover, MN/Anoka) put it in and John Kearns (Fr.-Park Ridge, IL) assisted. Less than a minute later, however, the Blue Devils made it two goals again on an advantage strike. Then, shortly after at 7:55, Stout struck again for the final goal of the night on another power-play.

The Blue Devils outshot the Blugolds 33-to-30, but what cost Eau Claire were the power-plays. Stout went 3-for-6 on the advantage while Eau Claire went 0-for-5. The Blugolds had six penalties compared to five for Stout. Tyler Brigl (So.-Eagan, MN) tallied 29 saves through all the Stout opportunities.

With the season sweep, Stout tied up the all-time series at 24-24-2.

Eau Claire has four games left, including tomorrow's against No. 6 UW-River Falls. The puck drops at 7 p.m. in Hobbs Ice Center.
