Soccer Stays Undefeated On The Year

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Leading the entire game, the third-ranked UW-Eau Claire soccer team held onto a 3-1 lead in order to remain perfect on the season at the Bollinger Fields today.

The Blugolds struck first in the game with a goal 11 minutes in. That wasn't enough for the Blugolds seeing as they scored again four minutes later. The Warhawks began to mount a comeback at 36 minutes into the game when they scored their lone goal, but the Blugolds remained dominant, scoring again in the 52nd minute.

Gina Christenbury (So.- Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) started the Blugolds off today by scoring first. Christenbury, a five-foot-four-inch Midfielder, scored at 10:35 with an assist from Liz Kooistra (Sr.- Lakeville, Minn.). Amy Smith (Sr.-Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) led the Blugolds with scoring today with an unassisted goal at 13:44 and a goal at 51:27 with an assist from Jessica Millard (Sr.- Madison, Wis./La Follette).

For the day, Eau Claire outshot the Warhawks 5-3. Allie Rivard (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) made a total of five stops for the Blugolds despite giving up one goal. The Warhakws goalkeeper Mary Scanlin made three saves despite her allowing three goals.

Eau Claire improves to 11-0-2 overall on the season, while the Warhawks drop to 5-6-0. In conference play, the Blugolds remain undefeated with a 4-0-0 record while Whitewater drops to 5-6-0. The Blugolds are now 17-2-1 against UW-Whitewater all-time. This was the fourth year in a row the Blugolds have defeated the Warhawks. The last time the Blugolds lost to the Warhawks was in 2003, 2-3.

The Blugolds will be back in action tomorrow against Carleton College in Northfield, Minn. at 2:00 p.m.
