Women's Soccer Ends The Regular Season With A Tie

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team closed the 2008 regular season today with 0-0 tie against the St. Thomas Tommies.

The Blugolds came into the contest today against the Tommies ranked 23rd in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and end the regular season with a 15-1-3 record. The Blugolds' only loss on the year came from conference opponent UW-Stevens Point, putting Eau Claire at 7-1-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) to take second place. St. Thomas remains unbeaten on the year with a 12-0-4 record after beating UW-Stevens Point the week before 3-2 and has two games left in its regular season.

Eau Claire finished the 110-minute game with eight total shots, while the St. Thomas only put out four total shots. When it came to the shots being on goal, the Blugolds again dominated the Tommies 6-3. Eau Claire's Allie Rivard (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) notched her seventh shutout of the season, adding to her season totals of 44 goals saved and only 10 goals allowed.

The Blugolds are unbeaten in the last four contests against the Tommies and improve to an all-time series record of 5-5-2. The last loss from St. Thomas came in 2004 and the last tie against the Tommies came all the way back in 2001.

Although the regular season is done for the Blugolds, they will play the quarterfinal game for the WIAC tournament against UW-Oshkosh this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Bollinger Fields in Eau Claire.
