Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The 22nd-ranked UW-Stevens Point soccer team stunned the third-ranked Blugolds with a 1-0 victory today at the Bollinger Fields.
Stevens Point is now undefeated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), holding a 5-0-0 record and is in sole possession of first place in the conference. Eau Claire drops to 4-1-0 in the conference and is 12-1-2 on the season. The Pointers are 11-2-0 overall.
Today's game marked the Blugolds' first loss since November 10, 2007. It was also the first time Eau Claire lost to Stevens Point since October 16, 2004 which was also the last time the Pointers scored a goal at the Bollinger Fields. Stevens Point now leads the all-time series with a record of 25-6-4.
The Pointers had two great opportunities in the second half and found the net on one of them. Blugold goalkeeper Allie Rivard (Sr.- Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) came out of the net twice to try and stop the ball and Point's Amanda Prawat capitalized the second time. The first shot hit off the post but less than a minute later she scored the Pointer's eventual game-winning goal at 76:24, her 15th goal of the season.
The Blugolds had their own opportunities in second, putting five of their nine second-half shots on the net. The closest Eau Claire got to a goal was when one hit off the crossbar in the middle of the second.
Both teams played even in the first half with neither team dominating on either end. Eau Claire got out of the half putting up three shots, but only two on goal, while Stevens Point put up one shot on goal that came within inches of going in. Rivard did just enough to poke the ball over the top of the net to hold the Pointers at zero. She also had a similar save in the second.
The Blugolds finished the game with 12 shots, seven of which were on-goal. Stevens Point put up seven shots including four that were on-goal. Rivard was in the net the entire contest, accumulating three saves and allowing one goal. The Pointers' Pam Luckow was also in-goal all 90 minutes and had seven saves.
The Blugolds will be back at home Wednesday to take on I-94 rival UW-Stout. The game is set for 4 p.m.
