Box Score EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team suffered another loss at the hands of Augsburg College, a 2-4 loss, at Hobbs Ice Center tonight.
The Blugolds, who are now 7-9-0 overall, also lost to Augsburg last Saturday in Minnesota by a score of 3-7. The Auggies pick up only their second win of the season tonight and are now 2-10-2. The Blugolds are now 4-13 all-time against Ausburg.
The Blugolds got down early, allowing two first period goals for the Auggies. Augsburg's Tyler Anthony scored first for the Auggies, his first goal of the season. Tim Lawson also picked up his first goal of the season, scoring Augsburg's second goal. Chris Johnson, who scored three of Augsburg's goals last week against the Blugolds, picked up tonight's game-winner in the second period.
Eau Claire did try and mount a comeback, though it proved to be too late. Senior Sean Garrity (North St. Paul, Minn./North) scored Eau Claire's first goal at 9:21 in the third, his eighth of the season, on an assist from Greg Petersen (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn./Totino-Grace). Eight minutes later Petersen would find the net again for the Blugolds, but with less than three minutes remaining, Eau Claire fell short. To finish the Blugolds off, the Auggies scored an empty net goal with 31 second remaining in the contest.
Goalie Aaron Johnson (So.-Hayward, Wis.) saw his first action of the season for the Blugolds, starting in goal and playing the entire first period. Tyler Brigl (So.-Eagan, Minn.) would relieve him in and play the rest of the game. Johnson picked up seven saves and allowed two goals, while Brigl had 10 saves and also allowed two goals.
Eau Claire did outshoot the Auggies tonight, more than doubling Augsburg's shot total. Eau Claire picked up 44 shots on target while Augsburg has 21.
The Blugolds will try to rebound tomorrow night when Hamline University comes to town in the Blugolds final non-conference matchup the year. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
