Soccer Ties With Chicago

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie today against the University of Chicago, ending its four-game winning streak.

Eau Claire (4-0-1) got off six shots in the first half, two more than Chicago, but both teams came up empty. Entering the second half of play with a scoreless game the Blugolds struck first.

Gina Christenbury (Fr.-Pleasant Prairie, WI/Kenosha Tremper) scored her first goal of the season at the 45:53 mark.

The Maroons would answer with 15 seconds remaining in the game. At 89:45 Brooke Bontz scored her fourth goal of the season for Chicago to send the game to overtime.

Eau Claire would get four shots on goal to Chicago's one in overtime but neither team was able to score. Liz Weirick (Sr.-Kenosha, WI/Tremper) had six saves, allowing one goal for the Blugolds.

The Blugolds committed 23 fouls to Chicago's 12. Eau Claire players Amy Smith (Jr. Bloomington, MN/Thomas Jefferson), Brittany Burant (Fr.-Stevens Point, WI), and Jamie Schiesel (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Armstrong) received yellow cards in the match.

The Blugolds will travel to Northfield Minnesota to take on St. Olaf tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.
