Men's Golf In First After Day One Of St. John's Invite

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team completed day one of the St. John's Invite today, in a tie with St. Cloud State for first place.

The Blugolds shot a 309 today, 21 above par. The Blugolds and St. Cloud State lead the 20-team field, with the next closest opponent, St. John's Blue, only two strokes behind. Three other teams are only six strokes behind the leaders. Gustavus Adolphus is in fourth place with 314 strokes, tied with the University of St. Thomas. Invite host St. John's finished the day in sixth place with a 315-stroke performance.

Peter Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills) was the top Eau Claire golfer today at Greystone Golf Club, in a tie with two others for fourth place after a 75-stroke performance this afternoon.

Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, MN/Eagan) and Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska) are both tied in seventh place with 76 strokes.

Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls) and Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) rounded out Eau Claire's top five, tying for 40th place with scores of 82.

The Blugolds will tee off for the final day of the St. John's Invite at 9 a.m. Sunday.
