CARMEL AND FISHERS, IN - The 14th-ranked UW-Eau Claire men's golf team jumped another seven spots by moving from 14th to seventh in day three of the NCAA Division III National Championships.
The team finished day one in 21st before jumping to 14th. The Blugolds shot a +17 305 score on Hawthorns Golf and Country Club today, good for third best on the par-72 course that measures 7,069 yards. They have a 935 total for all three days.
St. John's (MN) is in first with a 901 tally while University of La Verne (CA) sits second at 917. Ohio Wesleyan University (OH) is third at 918. Guilford College (NC) has a 932 score in front of Eau Claire while Nebraska Wesleyan University (NE) is behind the Blugolds at 936. Only 23 teams competed today, with yesterday's cut narrowing the field.
Clinton Dammann from St. John's leads all individuals with a one-under 215. There are 119 golfers still competing.
Rob Norris (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) shot a 74 today and is in 17th place. His 229 strokes lead the team. Mike Greer (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) also shot a 74 to tie for the team-best today. He is tied for 23rd on a 231 mark. Greer also recorded an eagle today on a par-4.
Ryan Brockhaus (Sr.-Mayville) is tied for 52nd with a 237 score. Tyler Leis (Sr.-Reedsburg) is in a tie for 70th and has shot a 240. Mason Milner (Jr.-Onalaska) has a 248 tally and is tied for 102nd.
Nationals conclude tomorrow.
