Men's Golf Ties For Third, Norris Takes Individual Honors

HORTONVILLE - Robert Norris (Sr. -St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall) took the top spot at today's Lawrence University Viking Invite but the UW-Eau Claire men's golf team tied for third out of 17 schools.

Norris hit a one-over 73 on the par-72 Eagle Creek Golf Club links. It was a 6,724-yard course. However, Norris was competing as an individual and his score did not count for the team. There were 91 golfers participating. Norris has taken first one other time this season, that being the Twin Cities Classic in October.

Carthage College won it all with a 315 mark. St. Mary's (MN) came in second on a 320-stroke effort. The Blugolds shot 323 and tied with Carroll College and Robert Morris College (IL). Eau Claire is ranked 14th.

Besides Norris, the other top golfer was Mike Greer (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake). He shot a 76 to tie for fourth. However, he too was golfing as an individual and did not have his strokes count for the Blugolds.

Ben Ziemann (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) was the top scorer for Eau Claire with a 79 that tied for 10th. Tyler Leis (Sr.-Reedsburg) and Mason Milner (Jr.-Onalaska) tied for 22nd on scores of 81. Peter Wendt (Jr.-Lake Mills) had the fourth score to count with an 82 that placed him in a tie for 28th.

Next up for the Blugolds is the St. Olaf Invite on May 5-6.
