Box Score STEVENS POINT, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team after winning two straight Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) conference games last weekend, were halted and shut-out by UW-Stevens Point 5-0 in a non-conference game at Willett Arena.
The Blugolds drop to 6-7-0 overall, ending the first half of the season one game under .500. The Pointers move to 8-5-0 on the season. Eau Claire is 25-55-5 all-time against Stevens Point.
Josh Calleja got the scoring started at the 8:26 mark in the first period with the assist going to Nic Polaski. The Pointers' Tim Manthey would score on a power play goal at the 19:26 mark to give Stevens Point a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
At the 10:47 mark in the second period Pat Lee scored the first of his three goals on the night. Lee would add another goal at the 16:25 mark in the third period. Lee completed the Hat Trick with a power play goal at the 18:51 mark in the third period.
Tyler Brigl (So.- Eagan, MN) was in the net for the Blugolds. Brigl had 16 saves and allowed five goals in a losing effort. Tom Speer was in-between the pipes for the Pointers. Speer had 26 saves and allowed no goals to get the win.
The Blugolds out-shot the Pointers in two of three periods and on the night 26-21. Stevens Point was 2-for-6 on the power play and Eau Claire was 0-for-5. Each team took 10 penalties.
Joe Bluhm (So.- Red Wing, MN) was ejected for the third time this season when he received two five minute major penalties in the third period, one for fighting and one for spearing both came at the 16:20 mark. Stevens Points' Chris Conway also received a five minute major penalty for fighting at the 16:20 mark.
The Blugolds will not be back in action until after the New Year. The Blugolds will host Lawrence University at Hobbs Ice Center. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. Friday January 4th.
