River Falls Too Much For Men's Hockey

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team led by a two goal performance from Sean Garrity (Sr. -North St. Paul, MN/North) fell short to conference leading River Falls tonight at Hunt Arena.

Eau Claire drops to 4-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. River Falls moves to 6-1-3 overall and 2-0-1 in the NCHA.

River Falls got on the board first scoring 2:08 into the first period with a goal from Wade Harstad with the assist going to Lance Malark. Garrity and the Blugolds answered at the 7:04 mark to tie the game. John Kearns (Fr.-Park Ridge, IL) had the assist on Garrity's fourth goal of the season.

Tyler Czuba put the Falcons up 2-1 at the 17:00 mark in the first. The score going into the first intermission was 2-1 Falcons. Eau Claire out-shot River Falls 10-to-5 in the first period.

Jim Henkemeyer scored 7:35 into the second period to extend the Falcons lead to two goals. Garrity answered at the 17:31 mark for his second goal of the game to make the score 3-2. Andrew Johnson (Jr.-Andover, MN/Anoka) had the assist on Garrity's fifth goal of the season. The Blugolds out-shot the Falcons 17-to-8 in the second period.

Tony Janssen (So.-Superior, WI) scored his third goal of the season 2:53 into the third period. Garrity had the assist on Janssen's goals.

Mitch Kerns and Czuba would each score for the Falcons in the closing ten minutes of play to take the 5-3 win over the Blugolds.

Tyler Brigl (So.-Eagan, MN) had 32 saves on the night and allowed five goals. Tyler Owens had 20 saves for the Falcons to get the win. Eau Claire out-shot River Falls 35-to-25.

The Blugolds will take on UW-Stout in NCHA action Saturday night at Hobbs Ice Center at 7:30 p.m.
